Description:
Managed accounts for Spotify Premium Family are coming to more markets, but it's more than just a parental control feature.
FULL STORY ======================================================================Spotify is expanding managed accounts for its Premium Family plan following a successful pilot run Parent guardian account managers will be able to enable controls for younger listeners, including explicit content filters and specific song restrictions It also adds an extra layer of protection to your individual Spotify Wrapped results
Spotify is making changes to its Premium Family plan, and is expanding managed accounts (the music streaming services Premium accounts for younger listeners) into seven new locations, including the US, UK, and Australia.
Managed accounts launched in three regions last year, and later expanded to seven more. Following that successful pilot run, Spotify is now bringing it
to another seven new territories: the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
Though managed accounts have only been part of Spotifys subscription
ecosystem for a year, they've become a highly requested feature, hence the companys decision to roll them out more widely. (Image credit: Spotify)
One of Spotify's aims is to give listeners aged 13 years and younger room to explore their own music tastes, and listen to their favorite artists with parental controls in place. They can also take advantage of other popular features such as playlist-making, Daylist , and the revamped Discover Weekly
, just like any standard Spotify subscriber. Interactivity features will
come with some restrictions, though. For example, Spotify Messages is age-gated.
The expansion of managed accounts adds a layer of reassurance for parents and guardians who manage the Premium Family plan. They can enable an Explicit Content Filter, restrict specific artist and song playback, and hide videos and short-form Canvas videos that appear with songs.
It all sounds great, right? But if you ask me, this isnt even the best part. Protection for your Spotify Wrapped results
As Spotify stated in its announcement , "each managed account comes with its own experience", meaning the days of fearing your kids hijacking your Spotify Wrapped results are over. It also means that younger listeners music recommendations wont get mixed up with those of the account manager, keeping both tastes separate resulting in more accurate Spotify Wrapped readings.
The company signed off its announcement by reiterating its focus on promoting and maintaining individuality within Premium Family plans, stating:
"At Spotify, we want to give parents and kids the ability to explore music together, from introducing children to the same songs you loved at their age, to helping guide their individual discovery. Every child is different, and every familys journey is unique, so weve been evolving our tools to help caregivers share music in a way that feels right for them."
