• Ripping DVD/BD in Linux

    Hello all,

Recently I've wanted to start trying to rip my DVD/BluRay movie collection in order to be able to stream them from a home Plex server. I've had pretty limited success doing this in Linux so far...

I've tried 'Handbrake' and it won't even find the title of the DVD disc that's in a drive. Was going to try 'MakeMKV' but it seems quite convoluted to get installed and the program hasn't been updated in like 15 years.

Wondering if anyone has had good results doing this in Linux, and if so, what software did you use? Anything obvious that I'm missing here? Thanks for any help you can provide.

isk -- I can no longer play it on my "TV" DVD player, either.

    help you can provide.

Assuming that you have no issues playing the disks on the PC, only thing I can figure is maybe Handbrake somehow installed while missing a dependency?

    player.

I have another set with that warning that ripped just fine.

Only other times I have problems, it usually means a problem with the
disk -- I can no longer play it on my "TV" DVD player, either.

I use MakeMKV in Windows. A new version was just released several months
ago and the keys are kept up to date. I use an LG 4K drive.

    I don't (and won't) use Windows.

Since I posted the above a while back, I've gotten MakeMKV (and
Handbrake) working in Linux and all is well. Thanks.

Usually. I've used it for years and there have been times--not many--where I'd have to wait several days to a week before the next key was issued. Great program otherwise.

I ended up buying a license for this very reason
