    The Story...
The "unsinkable" luxury liner Titanic, on its maiden voyage, struck an
iceberg just before midnight on April 14th, 1912, and sank at 2:27 AM,
April 15th. The Titanic had 2,224 persons aboard. Of those, more than
1,500 were lost. About 700 people were rescued off the icy waters of
    Newfoundland.

Titanic Trivia (if that's not an oxymoron)...

Supposedly a crew member said to a passenger, "God himself could
not sink this ship!".. (Maybe not such a wise challenge to make..)

According to experts if Captain Smith had ordered full speed ahead
instead of trying to slow the ship, they would have missed the iceburg.

The reason the Titanic didn't have enough lifeboats is that the
design, which allowed for two rows of lifeboats, was deemed too
'cluttered', so the number was cut in half..

The ship The Leyland Liner Californian ignored visible rocket flares
and radio messages and the captain went back to sleep and made no
effort to rescue survivors until 6 AM, 3 1/2 hours after the ship sank..

The ship Carpathia picked up lifeboats 2 hours after the sinking..
