Interesting. I post 'this day in history' items regularly, but never expected a response
from this one. Be sure to say hello to Mr. Piggles from all of us. BTW, I am a fan of his

Yes, that made quite a diffrence as well. I don't think of him as

I caught an episode of a show where she was a detective and I assumed
it was new but, looking online at her history, I'm thinking it was
more likely a re-broadcast of an older show called Murder in Suburbia
    made in 2004/2005, 12 episodes.

She is 56 now which probably makes her too young to play Dr Best's
mother, although with the right makeup it could probably be done..

Yeah, I have seen that one. IIRC, she was filming it at the same time she
was filming Doc Martin. She also played a detective in a show called,
    IIRC, DCI Banks.

Yeah, I think that would've been too young. I doubt someone my age would

Yes, I saw that listed but I thought I knew that show and didn't
remember seeing her but possibly I was remembering the character
names from Peter Robinson's books rather that the TV show based
on them.. I've read several of his books and have 8 more listed
to get from the Library eventually..

Have we heard how old he is supposed to be? I agree with you but
he may be playing a part that is younger than the actor is/looks.

I suppose though as an experienced surgeon he would have to be at
the youngest late 30's. However Catz is 56 so it's almost possible,
and they could use makeup to make her look older rather than younger
    like usual.. B)

Yeah, that is the one. It used two story devices from the original... the green arsenic wallpaper and the spleen.

The wallpaper story was significantly different... the original featured a
lady who was mostly bed-ridden (and who took Doc hostage during one of her poison-induced turns). I realized what they were going to find in the
house when someone mentioned the roof damage.

The "spleen" story ambulance ride seemed to be taken near-directly from the original. IIRC, that episode would end in a taxi ride back from the
hospital where Doc asked Louisa about her dental hygiene routine, which was slighly different than how this one ultimately ended. :D

Overall, it was a pretty good and funny episode.

I don't know if you saw the old episodes more recently than I did
or if you just remember them better since I didn't 'place' those
things till you mentioned them. Of course a lot of what's happening
now would be from very early in the old series since it's mostly
introductory situations, him in a new place finding his way, and
the old series started way back in 2004..

Let's blame it on that rather than my poor memory.. B)

Also that may be partly because I am more or less just watching
the show thinking of it new rather that looking for similarities
to the old series unless it's something big and obvious.

As expected though, he blew it with Louisa.. he finally got that
first kiss but then, rather than ask her if she felt it didn't
mean anything, he just blurted that out and walked away..

I may have watched it more recently. I got in the habit of watching the
    >reruns more than once, and some of my favorite episodes I have mave seen 5
    >or more times. :O :D

I rarely watch shows or movies more than once. Every now and then
I do, and if I start watching something and later realize I saw
it before, if it's not really fresh in my mind I may finish it.

Yeah, the spleen story was for sure from the first season... it may have
    >been the first season finale. The wallpaper story, IIRC, was from later in
    >the series -- maybe several seasons later but still quite a while ago!

The wallpaper one I did remember when you mentioned it. Not so much
because I remembered that episode, but I did remember hearing about
    old wallpaper somewhere..

Also that may be partly because I am more or less just watching
    >> the show thinking of it new rather that looking for similarities

Yeah, I don't always watch it looking for similarities, but when I was able
    >to guess the wallpaper issue, I started paying closer attention to this
    >one. Initially, I didn't see any similarities.

    It's a different enough situation/location that it's pretty easy
to just forget about the original series. I found the same thing
with the American remakes of several other shows like the British
show Robin's Nest which was remade as Three's Company as well as
others like All in the Family (from Till death do us Part) and
Too Close for Comfort (from Keep it in the Family)..

Yeah, he sure did goof and, after he blurted it out, he really didn't read
    >her reaction well. Reminds me of several similar blunders I would have
    >made when I was younger. ;)

When I was in 'those years' I was generally working so many hours
I didn't have time to chase women so I only ended up with ones who
almost threw themselves at me, which left a lot less opportunity
to mess up those early dates.. B)

I only one time dated a girl I went to school with and I never went
to a school dance. I mainly met ladies at work or through people
I worked with or shared hobbies with.

I knew about Ghosts... I think they maybe aired a few of the UK episodes at
one point on CBS. I've not heard of High Potential.

I guess one of the more famous ones of recent memory is The Office. ;)
It started out as a UK show, which begat a US show, and the two of them
have begat several additional versions in other countries.
