    Mike,

Invest in Kids! They are our future!

And the future for our hobbies. Unfortunately, many kids are so
enamored with the tablets and smartphones, that they are in their
own "bubble"...and couldn't care less about the heritage, history,
current state, or future, of ANY hobby.

I think the future sucks. If kids are the future, that explains a lot, because kids suck. It is not surprising if you think about it. Heck these days I feel I cannot make reasonable deals or sustain reasonable conversation with anybody who isn't at least 10 years older than me.

I am Captain Optimism, and proud of it.

I think most people, other than parents talking about their own kids,
have serious doubts about the upcoming generation and the world they
might create.. That said, I'm sure our parents said the same thing
about our generation when we were young..

I actually recall a supper conversation when my father told my
brother that he was a total failure..
My brother was 10 at the time.

But usually they survive fine. They may be a little warped but
once they actually get out in the world they learn what they can
get away with and what they can't and what is needed to survive,
    or they don't..

The problem is that parents nowadays won't discipline their kids,
letting them become "spoiled brats". I got my share of spankings
growing up (my late brother got more), and I consider myself better
    for it.

On the amateur radio traffic nets that I do, there are several
folks older than me. Yet, I will still address them as Mister Roy,
Mister John, Miss Tammy, Miss Janice, etc. When asked why I do that,
I reply "RESPECT -- because if I give it, they will return it".

Sadly, most kids nowadays have no idea what that means.

Well I don't have doubts about the world my parent's generation created, I have certainities, and I also think that world sucks.

But really, my point is that lots of people gets caught up and heart warmed by kids when the fact of the matter kids eventually grow into adults and adults suck. Adults do beautiful things suck as locking their parents in nursing homes and forgetting they exist, among other things.

I know I am coming across as a party sourer, but I find children worshipping cringeworthy in the extreme because people will gather around any random baby like he was the cuttest bunny ever when he has a high chance of just being the next wife beater/pickpocketer/school bully/politician/asshole.

It is funny, when I deal respect titles in Spain people has a tendency to get angry at me. They taught me to use them and I had to unlearn them.

In the states, calling someone "Sir" is usually not going to cause you
trouble, but "ma'am" might. There are women who think that being called
that means you think they are old.
