MIke,
1. First thing in the morning just put on your shoes and go for
a run or cycling for at least about 30-40mins.
First thing I do it the vital signs, then I have to make something
to eat, or I get queasy.
2. Get rid of hot water baths. Cold bath refreshes your entire
nervous system making you fresh in thoughts.
When someone asks me if I took a shower, I ask "Why?? Is there
one missing??". <G> I prefer a hot shower, but not scalding.
3. Play a lot of chess with computer at least two games a day.
I've been playing Pyramid Solitaire on my smartphone, and am
getting back to playing games on the BBS.
4. Read, read and read a lot. Read things that are new to you
and informative. Stop watching stupid movies and useless
publicity news channel and page3 news.
I was never much of a bookworm, plus it's hard on my eyes, with
the dry corneas. I have Systane Eye drops that I use regularly,
but I have to take a break from everything once I use them.
5. Spend lots of time with the youth, preferably college folks
or high school buddies. They have the innovative minds.
The interaction I get with people nowadays is via amateur radio,
with the daily traffic nets. That's really the only time I talk
to folks.
6. Numbers, play a lot with numbers, try to memorize phone
numbers of all of your friends and close people and make sure
to dial their number rather than calling from the contact list
or call log.
That's where Pyramid Solitaire comes in, having to do the card
combinations of 13 to clear them...or playing Mahjongg.
7. Learn the art of calmness and get rid of anger. Makes you a
smarter decision maker. In any tense situation think before you
react.
Like the ceramic cup that noted "Coffee -- because anger management
class is too expensive". <G>
8. Make it a point to speak at least to one stranger a day at
your office or surrounding and try to remember their names and
what they do.
Being retired on disability (they keep finding stuff wrong with me),
and that I no longer drive due to vision issues, I rarely leave the house...basically looking at 4 walls every day.
9. Learn a new language every year. Also speak in multiple
languages through out the day.
I can read Spanish, but I can't speak it. I had 4 years of it in
high school and college, but that was 50 years ago.
10. Start playing a new sport and try to be at least an
intermediate player in it.
What games I play are on the BBS...or I'll drive the "explore the
route mode" in Auran Trainz Simulator.
11. Be curious be hungry, ask questions to yourself about
everything that you are curious about and find answers to it.
That's related to amateur radio...I'd like to learn how to handle
"formal written traffic".
12. Eat only what is required for your body in limited
quantity. If possible eat foods which contain essential amino
acids for brain development. (Ex - sea food and nuts.)
I'm on a light seafood diet -- when it gets light, and I see food,
I start eating. <G>
13. Take a stroll down your lane before hitting the bed. Do not
use your phone just before sleep or when in bed. Finish all
phone activities an hour before bed time. Have a 7-8 hour
undisturbed sleep.
The only time I get the long sleep is when I'm sedated.
14. Go on a solo trip once in a while to a new place and stay
away from phone as much possible. Adapt to the conditions of
the place where ever you go.
I'm only one step away from being rich...all I need is money. <G>
I haven't been outside of ARkansas since 2017, and haven't had an
Amtrak train trip since 2009. So, I'm long overdue for one...but,
I can't get the funds together for it.
15. Learn to play a musical instrument or simple start singing
songs and get better at singing.
I still write Gospel and Secular Poetry on occasion, but with having degenerative disc disease in my back, spine, and tailbone, my days of
singing in church choirs are long since finished.
