A recent Phase III clinical trial led by University College London has shown that a new
drug called baxdrostat can significantly lower blood pressure in people with uncontrolled
    or resistant hypertension.

The trial, which involved nearly 800 patients worldwide, found that those taking
baxdrostat saw their blood pressure fall by around 9-10 mmHg more than those taking a
    placebo.

This reduction in blood pressure is large enough to cut cardiovascular risk and could
potentially help up to half a billion people globally.

Baxdrostat works by blocking the production of aldosterone, a hormone that can cause
the body to hold onto salt and water, leading to high blood pressure.
