Another response:
There are none. Classic ANGINA can and does occur in people with no coronary disease.
Sometimes we find another cause -(Aortic stenosis, Hypertensive Heart Disease, etc).
Many times we find no cause for the discomfort.
DYSPNEA - can be heart, - acute or chronic. COPD, asthma -(with normal heart) -
pericardial disease, pneumothorax, and 50 other causes.
FATIGUE - has even more causes.
PALPITATIONS - even more difficult. Can represent anything from thyroid disease, to
drug ingestion. Totally non-specific complaint.
Remember - symptoms are a reflection of a patient complaint. We try to relate that to a
specific heart disease when possible. Its very difficult, and often impossible. Before the
advent of heart catheterization there thousands told they had Angina - and they did by
symptom but they had no organic heart disease that we could identify even after
cath.
The difficulty of cardiology is what created my life time interest and devotion to do the
best possible. Most of what we do is life changing.
