Is it affected by whether or not you have eaten breakfast?

Q: What is considered a normal fasting blood glucose level? Is it affected by whether or
    not you have eaten breakfast?

A: In adult humans, a normal FBG (Fasting Blood Glucose) level is BELOW 100 mg/dl
    (5.55 mmol/L); but not usually lower than 80 mg/dl (4.44 mmol/L), and usually about
    90 mg/dl (5.00 mmol/L). A FBG from 100 to 125 mg/dl (5.55 to 6,99 mmol/L) is diagnostic of pre-diabetes, while 126 mg/dl (7.00 mmol/L) or more is diagnostic of
    full-blown DM (Diabetes Mellitus).

Fasting means youve eaten NO FOOD AT ALL for AT LEAST EIGHT HOURS; so if youve
had breakfast or any food in that time frame before the test, its NOT a fasting BG - and
the result will be higher than those criteria.

BG (Blood Glucose) changes all the time; when we eat, BG rises - as we begin eating; it
continues rising for about an hour after a meal, and begins dropping back to basal level
for the next hour; by two hours after a meal, MOST folks are back below 100 mg/dl
(5.55 mmol/L); but it MAY take up to 21/2 hours. It remains in the basal range (90 to
    99 mg/dl, or 5.00 to 5.54 mmo/L) until the next meal.
