• In what ways is cholesterol good for your body?

From Mike Dippel@999:1/1 to All on Thursday, September 04, 2025 23:02:34
All cholesterol is good. There is only one kind of cholesterol, and we could not possibly
live without it. But like all good things, we can die from too much of it.

Too much water in the body tissues, for example, can kill a person within hours. This is
why the body has mechanisms for regulating cholesterol, water, and so many other
    things.

Your sex hormones and other steroids are made from cholesterol.

Without cholesterol, youd have no sexual development in adolescence, no sex drive, no
sperm or egg production; youd be sterile, asexual.

But that wouldnt matter, because youd never live past infancy anyway. Youd die young
from stress, because our stress response hormones such as cortisol are made from
    cholesterol.

Cholesterol also is the precursor for bile acids, which are important in digestion of
    dietary fat.

Cholesterol is a vital component of our cell membranes; without it, cells break apart, and
ordinary blood pressure would rupture ones blood vessels (seen in people with pathologically low cholesterol levels).

One old boy couldn't pronounce cholesterol. He would always say
"castor oil". Both can have a crappy experience. <G>
