Here's a potential solution to your problem. I saved this response to help explain why you want to get your own node number quickly. Thanks to Adept

Just posting a first test post.
Verifying from Mystic Guy vids
Remembering my experience with those videos (and clearly they're still
useful, despite the years that have passed since Avon released them), there's one thing you might not be aware of:
That /999 address is a way to get things going quickly. But the next person
who watches those videos will _also_ use that address, and if they check before you do, their BBS will get those messages, not yours.
So you'll want to apply for your very own node number.
And I believe Avon still handles that, though you might end up on one of the other subnets, rather than the one he runs, as there are a couple of other people helping do the work of keeping FSXnet running.
End Quote....

I did wonder about that situation, I sent an application of last week via email but have not yet heard anything back, not sure how long it usually takes, so just waiting it out :)

I sent a request on the 7th July, so not that long ago really, I also sent another one yesterday as I realised the first one I sent was slightly wrong.
Thanks for the offer btw, I will wait it out a bit more and see where we are in a week or so.

I sent a message to the BBS support echo yesterday ~18:30 (UTC+10) that hasn't propagated out. I can see that it was accepted by the hub in my binkd logs though.
There is also one message visible in that echo on Agency that hasn't been received by either me or 2

Howdy,
Fail: No Origin or Tear line.
This is one of this mystic packet fails.
This one is operator error.
Golded: PID: GED+W64 1.1.5-b20250409
So it might be both then.
I seen these kinds of messages all the time - and my theory of an external mail tool looks like it is a part of the problem.
The question is, is the external tool not set up properly and mystic is blindly sending out the mail, or is the external tool submitting something back that is tripping up mystic.

I have seen this same problem with another bbs software package, and golded. The issue was a misconfigured golded. (From memory)

Most definitely. It's when you use Golded to access your Mystic or Synchronet (or maybe any others, too) message bases without actually defining the use of a tearline and origin line in Golded's config.
There is two "example" config files for Golded, 'simple.cfg' and 'advance.cfg'. It is most definitely defined in the 'advance.cfg' (I just looked), but it is not defined in 'simple.cfg'. If you see the guy around, tell him to put this in his golded.conf/cfg:
ctrlinfonet none
ctrlinfolocal none
ctrlinfoecho tearline origin
tearline @longpid @version
Or maybe we'll get lucky and he'll read this.

Nick

The former. If Golded doesn't add these, Mystic definitely should upon export, but I don't believe it does.
It's definitely not sending something back tripping up Mystic. James actually updated his JAM format to work with Golded, but maybe missed this because most people enable the tearline and origin line in Golded. *shrug*

OK, if that is the cause, then great.
ie: PID=Golded, no origin line.
(I think tearline is optional anyway, cant remember, need to check.)
I dont think its an issue with Synchronet, since SBBSecho adds that stuff anyway I think (not noticed anyway with anything other than Mystic so far).
I'll look to put in some validation in to clrhgouz to detect mail packets like this and inform the sender.
I think at moment the packet is rejected completely (I need to double check my code), so my downlinks wont get it, and any mail beyond the offending message in the same packet. (Then I sometimes see a bunch of "I didnt get that message" messages soon after :)

Well, so long as the offender is willing to change his config. ;)

Yeah, it is optional.
I dont think its an issue with Synchronet, since SBBSecho adds that

sbbsecho forces it's own tear/origin lines. You can't disable it. So in that case, Golded needs to NOT send it's own tear/origin lines.
I'll look to put in some validation in to clrhgouz to detect mail
packets like this and inform the sender.
Don't think you could really go wrong with that, as most other software doesn't do anything remotely close. It either passes it on, or rejects it (most probably just pass it on).
I think at moment the packet is rejected completely (I need to double
check my code), so my downlinks wont get it, and any mail beyond the offending message in the same packet. (Then I sometimes see a bunch of
"I didnt get that message" messages soon after :)
Ouch. Yeah that's not good! In that case, maybe you're better off just passing on the messages, then. But by all means, if your software informs the sender of an error it'll already be doing better than most other softwares that don't say anything.

Nick

Hey,
just found out that OpenXP (the good old Crosspoint). beside being a Fido Point Software, can do NNTP(s) as well. Not really a Fan of openXP's
Keyboard Shortcuts, but lets see if it sends out this message via NNTPS through my BBS.

Howdy,
+----------------------------------------------------------------[ ORIGIN ]-+ Fireside BBS 21:3/223 (21:3/223.0)
Not sure if you picked this up, but your address is in the origin line twice.
The correct format is the address in parenthesis, which SBBSecho will do for you, you dont need to have it on the free text part (that you would have addeded yourself).

TID: gettossed 0.1
This automated reply shows the PID and TID being the same. However, his original message shows 'clrghouz' as the TID.
Should clrghouz be modifying the tosser ID of the original message?
IMHO, yes.
The PID represent the source program that created the message - and should only be added by the source.
The TID represents the tosser that put the message into network, and should be changed by the tosser sending the message on.
(Well thats how I interpret it).
http://ftsc.org/docs/fsc-0046.005
So, the TID from the source to clrghouz (which clrghouz quotes in its reply, would be that of the origin [to clrghouz]).
The TID downstream (uplinks and other downlinks from clrghouz) would have clrghouz's ID in it, because it changed the message (normally adding additional SEEN-BYs and PATH).
I'm going to use these values to build up some stats to see if it can show who uses what...

I believe the next person to write a test message had clrghouz in the PID, and Mystic BBS in the TID. So I guess I'm still confused as to what's going on.
The TID represents the tosser that put the message into network, and
should be changed by the tosser sending the message on.
So, let's say the message is duped back into the network, and people down the line are trying to track down who and what software caused this problem. If every tosser that processes that message changes the TID, you would never be able to track it back to the original tosser that put the message into the network.
(Well thats how I interpret it).
http://ftsc.org/docs/fsc-0046.005
I see what you're saying, with this paragraph:
When a Conference Mail processor adds a TID to a message, it may not
add a PID. An existing TID should, however, be replaced. TIDs follow
the same format used for PIDs, as explained above.
Although, I'm not sure if/when it should be replaced, since you are just passing along a message that is already "echomail" that had already left the originating system's local message base, where THAT tosser was the one that converted the local message to echomail (as described in the paragraph before the one I pasted here).
So, the TID from the source to clrghouz (which clrghouz quotes in its
reply, would be that of the origin [to clrghouz]).
The TID downstream (uplinks and other downlinks from clrghouz) would
have clrghouz's ID in it, because it changed the message (normally
adding additional SEEN-BYs and PATH).
Every tosser a single message passes through adds additional SEEN-BYs and PATHs, but I don't see any other tosser changing the TID or PID kludges. *shrug*
I'm going to use these values to build up some stats to see if it can
show who uses what...
Sure, but after said message passes through 10 other systems after yours (just an example), while none of those other systems change those kludges, it would probably be assumed that the message originated from clrghouz, which is incorrect.
Eh well, what do I know.

Nick

It's all new code not using any established BBS/binkd/tosser.
It should follow specs but I've found that they aren't all clear lol.

Howdy,

It was my bad.
Your last message didnt quote anything, and when I used the "*" (in synchronet), it didnt show any history - so I didnt know what it was about.
But I forgot, when you "read all new to yourself", it doesnt pull in any history, so the "*" is useless...
