My OG favorite was Eudora. Now I use Thunderbird almost exclusively.

I migrated my company from a Mac-based email system to a single UNIX
box running Qpopper with a company license for Eudora. We needed 4
boxes for the Mac mail system, UNIX running on one desktop box did the
trick. We figured out how to share a company directory, signatures and
    more - very cool.

I remember the sound of the Eudora email chime going off when someone
    sent a message to "all".

    That brings back memories. ;)

I eventually got settled on sylpheed, which eventually morphed into claws.

I use Eudora. It has its weaknesses (including that it makes messages more likely to be marked as spam), and I have to use stunnel in order to have actual basic security, but I like the whole, "everything is a text file" aspect.

(And, to be fair, I don't open it that often, as I just look at my e-mail through a web interface, most of the time.)

One thing I liked was that it had (don't know if it still does or not) UUencode/UUdecode built right in.

Would be really nice if Netrunner or Syncterm had that built in as well.

Now in my defense, I haven't found an email client I like in 40 years

mutt still works.. there's probably some way to pull mail from Exchange so that it can end up in mutt.
