The authors of SyncTerm are very responsive, and I'm sure they'd welcome a
report or questions about that issue.

Posted it about 7 months ago, fell of deaf ears and then my bug report was closed and disappeared from the site. So I gave up. Not my fight.

I'm not sure it's a bug in SyncTerm, as I've never seen the issue, but if you were to ask in the Synchronet IRC channel, I'm sure the authors could try to help you resolve the issue if you wanted to try using SyncTerm again.

It seems to have figured out that I like Hannah Fry and Amy Shira Titel (sp?). Lately, when I open the YT app on my phone, about 50% of the
time it will automatically play a video from one of them without me searching for or clicking on one.

Haha .. yeah this likely is the one time I don't mind AI being predictive; at least it's showing me good content. However I still don't get the "shorts .." I'm always getting a brunette farmer in overalls and nothing else, doing stupid stuff for a few seconds .. I don't like farmers, nor brunettes .. At least it's not end of the world garbage though.

One is a redhead and the other a brunette, but they both talk science so maybe that is my thing. :D

Hehe .. I think the algo must review (something unrelated (science, computers, camping, etc..)) we watch, predicts we are guys, then starts feeding the AI Cinemax style videos in our feed...

syncterm 1.1 runs on Win7. I have it on my Win7 VM.

Yes, also runs on my Win7 but with some keyboard bugs. On my portuguese keyboard, on numeric keypad "+ - * /" goes duplicated. Also can't access
    "Alt Gr" + numeric keys characters like "@ { [ ] } " .

YT likes to push shorts because most younger people don't have the attention span to interact with longer-form content. A couple of creators I follow have complained about that because it has made it more difficult to get longer-form content monetized. One of them started doing shorts to complement their longer videos, and the other (whose videos were usually under 5 minutes anyways) started posting their existing content as shorts.

So far, those are not the ones they auto-feed to me on YT. Some of them do show up to be selected, though. Facebook, OTOH, always pushes that style of video at me. ;)

I recently fired up facebook again for the sake of interacting with my dad via messenger, which he decided is the only method of communication he'll use with all of us siblings, and in part to scroll through Facebook Market place for retro gear. I noticed that facebook has managed to spy beyond from within it's app, as I was searching for a chiropractor within Safari (on my iPhone) and Facebook started showing spine shorts / videos / ads to me. In addition I often search questions customers have on hardware parts (I manage a hardware store,) Facebook picks up on those too and begins showing me related do it yourself ads and content.

Youtube seems less invasive, however the generalized "feed" they prescribe to me is full of ai garbage for sure. I like watching "how to" videos and not much else on Youtube. It will be nice to do so on a BBS where hopefully I'm less "tracked" than through a browser.

I think this is part of why I've been using the term, "AI" less and less.

Because this just sounds like a recommendation algorithm, rather than anything that's an LLM or genAI.

I mean, they probably _could_ use an LLM, but it'd be worse and less efficient than having some sort of well-tuned algorithm.

(Regardless, I'm glad the recommendations are working for you.)

    Same - I <3 SyncTERM.

I _use_ SyncTERM, but struggle with not having figured out why pasting is failing.

At least on my Mystic BBS.

    Theres a control code you can send thru the terminal to users when they connect that turns it on. I run it in my startup.mps/mpx;

    writeLn('^[[?1000l') //Syncterm Mouse Control Code

NOTE: That "^[[" part has to be a control code - and I forget right now how you enter it in a text editor like vim/nano... gosh; some keypress like CTRL+X, or ALT+X??

Maybe someone can chime in about that - but the above writeln in startup.mps/mpx will get SyncTERM mouse stuff working. :P

I'm not either, but there really isn't much in the way of options. Termina
tor is ok, but there's no hotkey to exit or hang up. Icyterm no longer has a hotkey for full screen and netrunner is outdated for the ssh usage I do. Syncterm also doesn't support ssh's that the bbs software doesn't handle natively by allowing alt-l to enter credentials...

I am guessing there are multiple ways, but I just did it by using ALT-094, ALT-091, ALT-091, and evidently typing in the ASCII codes directly gets around whatever thing it's trying to do instead with the control codes.
