• QWK reader for Windows 10 or 11

From Skylar@VERT to All on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 17:45:39
Does anyone use a QWK reader in Windows 10 or 11? I used a couple in the early 90s but haven't stayed around the scene long enough to bother with one since then. I've started looking for one but I'm disappointed with the ones that I have found.

MultiMail - I'm just not a fan of MM.
BlueMail - The website listed on the SBBS wiki is dead and a Google search only returned a couple of questionable sites.

Although I've been a console/command line guy since I met my first love in 1981 (a Commodore PET), I'd prefer a GUI QWK reader. I found TitanMail, which is ok but lacking in features and documentation. I don't see any way to use, let alone configure, keyboard shortcuts for simple things like next message, next message in thread, mark thread as read, and so on.

And yeah, I could download the source and hack on it. But I have enough side programming projects that I'd rather be working on and have been sitting on my hard drive, notepad, or swishing around in my head just waiting for me to get a round tuit. ;)

    Thanks

    Hello Skylar!

Although I've been a console/command line guy since I met
my first love in 1981 (a Commodore PET), I'd prefer a GUI
    QWK reader. ..

Not a QWK reader but a GUI point system: Winpoint.

I don't know much about Fidonet, except to read messages. From a quick search, I think this would only be helpful if I was a Fidonet node, which I'm not.

But at least it has an aress book!

One only needs to be a "point node", which just means you need a sysop to set this up for you on their end. It's pretty quick and easy.

No. As a point, you would still operate as an individual user.
All you have to do is ask at your favourate BBS if they would
set you up as a point.

I have used it primarily as an node lookup too. It's a good
    one.

I have a couple of points that I host, and I point Dovenet to one of them.

If you can figure out the software, you are welcome to point from here.

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to stick with QWK for now.
