Besides the big 2 (C-Net and Image BBS). What was your favorite BBS program for the Commodore 8-Bit computer?

On the commercial BBS side, I liked AABBS (Especially the 128 Version). I never did like the sequencial message bases (WWIV style). It made finding specific posts difficult.

A BBS that I thought was interesting was ST/R bbs, which from the UI operated much like Image/C-Net. It's main drawbacks were it not supporting 2400bps and the BASIC portion and P-Files (Yes it supported online games), were compiled based. There was also no documentation on how to write online games for it.

A weird fact about ST/R BBS, is if you decompiled the basic, the resulting BASIC was too big to fit in the C64's memeory. You could open it in 128, but I never could find a solution to recompile it.

As a brand new sysOp in 1986 I tried AABBS, Ribit, and a couple of others I can't remember. I didn't like any of them. C-Net was the way to go and after several weeks playing games to get a BBS on the up and up, I settled on a copy of C-Net 10.0. I currently run Centipede 128 2 line system in memoriam to my old Co-SysOp Blackhawk (also my cousin through marriage and best friend at the time) He passed away a year ago and since he never wanted to run the big 2 he tried many different boards too. Finally settling on C-Net then Image. Because of his out of the box thinking, I put the Centipede online, and it is solid as a rock! Some of the basic portions are pretty easy to modify, but it takes some getting used to modifying. I really like it and it has built in 2 line chat which works really well also.. Eventually, I will network it with 2 other boards, and if I can find someone who might have the files network it into the NISSA Network. Not many of the Color 64 or Centipede sysOp's from back then around anymore to share the files...
